Summary of Job

The World Race Squad Mentor will lead a collaborative leadership team to guide the

process of spiritual formation for World Race participants across all phases of the trip

cycle: training camp, launch, and field. They provide day-to-day field support in order to

disciple the squad from personal brokenness to abandonment to spiritual dependence

upon the Lord. The Squad Mentor will accomplish this through regular teachings,

one-on-one mentor sessions, prayer, and ministering to the squad’s field leadership. They

are ministers of Adventures who equip, train, and lead participants in Adventures’

mission trips.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● The World Race Squad Mentor is responsible for the following ministerial duties:

○ Take ownership of the quality of the World Race experience facilitated for

their squad.

○ Work to establish and maintain World Race core values beginning at

training camp and continuing throughout their discipleship journey with us.

■ Seeking and hearing God’s voice and then moving in obedience

■ Setting the captives free

■ Praying for the sick

■ Living a life of radical faith as evidenced by the establishment of the

Kingdom

○ Oversee the spiritual health of participants by leading them through a

discipleship journey.

■ Pursue intentional relationships with participants through personal

conversations via email, voice, video, and live interactions, with the

purpose of spiritually supporting, encouraging, and calling out

spiritual gifts.

■ Cultivate an understanding of each participant’s personal journey -

helping them express their fears, problems and areas of

discouragement.

■ Give participants pastoral mentorship in a way that is consistent with

Adventures in Missions’ values and beliefs.

■ Pray with participants.

○ Serve as the lead trainer for the squad and leaders during training camp.

■ Help facilitate training sessions

■ Provide daily direction to the squad

■ Lead instructional breakout sessions to prepare World Racers for life

and ministry in the field.

○ Recruit a team of Alumni Squad leaders to provide leadership to squads on

the field under the direction and supervision of the SQM.

○ Train, equip and empower Squad Leaders (SQLs) and Team Leaders (TLs)

to lead WR squads and teams in a way consistent with the values of the

World Race program so that the ethos of the World Race program is

preserved and perpetuated.

■ Provide direction and oversight for the training of raised up squad

leaders.

■ Serve alumni and raised-up squad leaders in a discipling capacity

while they are leading on the field.

○ Develop a team of ministry partners to complete the fundraising goal.

● Administrative tasks:

○ Serve the squad leadership team by ensuring that information is distributed

to coaches and SQLs.

○ Work with the leadership team to schedule, manage, facilitate/teach and

lead squad debriefs.

○ Work as part of a cross-functional team which includes logistical and

administrative staff to achieve goals such as:

■ Revenue attainment (support coaching) and control of field costs

■ Ministry host development

■ Participant safety

■ Reporting


Competencies Required

● World Race Alumni Squad Leader experience required.

● Professing Christian with established record of high Christian character, integrity,

servant leadership, maturity, and a positive attitude

○ Character and Integrity – must have strong Christian moral principles, be

trustworthy, honest, fair, and display the Fruit of the Spirit in both word and

action

○ Servant leadership – must lead as Christ did with humility, considering their

needs above your own and making it your priority to improve those you

serve

○ Maturity – must be strong spiritually, responding appropriately with respect

to the time and place of every situation

○ Positive attitude – must always be willing to do your best with what is

asked of you

● Demonstrates emotional and spiritual health that manifests itself in authority,

confidence and the ability to lead others into the same.

● Evidence of discipleship fruit in their life.

● Understand and embrace the core values, culture, and ministry of Adventures in

Missions and demonstrates a passion to be a part of and propel its future.

● Has the desire and skills (written, verbal and interpersonal skills) to work in a

collaborative and intergenerational environment with coaches, SQLs, and AIM

leaders that values participant leadership.

● Able to influence a broad range of people and effectively drive them toward a

common goal in Training, Launch, and Debrief environments.

● The flexibility to meet shifting needs and willingness to work flexible hours. Will do

“whatever it takes”.
